Sophomore Tammy Liu says human resource development (HRD) intrigues her because it essentially focuses on empowering people to reach their potential. “I have always loved the idea of being able to make a meaningful impact by helping individuals grow both personally and professionally,” she says. “HRD goes beyond just managing people; it’s about fostering an environment where employees are able to feel valued, motivated, and equipped with the skills they need to thrive in any setting.”
She adds that opportunities such as designing training programs, mentoring others, and improving workplace dynamics make this field incredibly rewarding not just to herself, but to everyone as well. “I’m particularly drawn to how HRD bridges organizational goals with employee development, ensuring that growth happens on both sides,” she says.
Liu chose this program in the Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development because she wants a career that combines her interest in business and human interactions in a professional setting. “HRD provides the perfect balance of understanding human behavior, developing leadership skills, and improving business strategies,” she says. “I’ve always been passionate about helping others reach their potential and seeing them thrive. This program equips me with the knowledge and tools to do that effectively. It opens doors to diverse career opportunities, from talent management to organizational consulting. Being in this program allows me to make a difference in workplaces and, ultimately, in people’s lives.”
